Meet the latest food trend: the ramen burger

Ramen burger is hamburger with a bun made of noodles

DETROIT – Food is getting more creative by the day, it seems. With buns made of donuts and chicken breasts, to taco shells made of waffles. But a new contender has entered the ring of odd ball food trends. Meet the ramen burger.

Coming all the way from Brooklyn, the ramen burger has taken New York by storm, usually selling out at Brooklyn's flea market.

It even has a Facebook page.

The burger consists of a beef patty placed between two-pan-fried buns made of ramen noodles. It's then topped with arugula, green onions, and a secret sauce. Creator Keizo Shimamoto came up with the idea while traveling abroad in Japan, where ramen bun sandwiches are common, but not with beef.

"It's like half burger, half bowl of ramen, but put into one," Shimamoto told ABC News. "You might think that it's crispy because I pan fry it. But when you bite into it, the inside is chewy like Ramen noodles."

Shimamoto doesn't currently have plans to take the ramen burger national, but there are sure to be copy cat ramen burgers popping up all around.
