Spring has sprung at doctors offices around metro Detroit

Doctors report seeing more allergies, asthma, stomach viruses

DETROIT – There is clear evidence that spring has sprung in metro Detroit if you check with medical offices in the area.

Wayne County:

Spring Allergies
Asthma
Gastrointestinal Viruses
Upper Respiratory Viruses

Dr. Manish Bolina from Oakwood's Southgate Urgent Care said allergies are picking up with the warmer temperatures and that more kids are suffering asthma symptoms as outdoor sports get underway.

Children's Hospital of Michigan reports gastrointestinal viruses and Garden City Hospital said it's seeing some viral upper respiratory infections.

Oakland County:

Gastrointestinal Illnesses

Asthma

Metro Family Medicine in Southfield said it has more patients with gastrointestinal illnesses.

Beaumont Hospital in Troy is currently treating respiratory infections and reports an increase in allergy and asthma symptoms from spring vegetation.

Washtenaw County:

Spring Allergies
Stomach Viruses
Influenza

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor said some stomach viruses are going around.

The Washtenaw County Public Health Department said influenza continues to circulate, however the levels are low compared to previous weeks.

Monroe County:

Spring Allergies
Stomach Viruses

Spring allergies are the primary problem in Monroe County with tree pollen being the chief culprit.  Mold levels are also high.

Macomb County:

Upper Respiratory Illnesses
Allergies
Stomach Viruses
Asthma

Dr. Kristen Kavanagh at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital reports lots of upper respiratory illnesses and spring allergies.

McLaren Macomb said it has an increase in patients with stomach viruses and complications from asthma.

Dr. McGeorge said it's a good idea to talk to your doctor about your allergies even if you rely on over-the-counter medications to treat them.  He said it ensures you are using the most effective products and not doubling up on active ingredients.
