Canton offers taste of Michigan foods, drinks

Classes expose people to different flavors of Michigan

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Residents wanting to taste and sip the flavors of Michigan could satisfy their cravings in Canton Township.

Canton Leisure Services is holding a series of wine and food classes called "A Celebration of Michigan Wine and Food."

The three-part series includes demonstrations and samples for area chefs and wine experts from Holiday Market in Canton.

The first class is Sept. 6 at the Summit on the Park located at 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton. Chef Lee Ulrich, of Joe's Produce, will prepare and pair selected local harvest food dishes with Michigan hard ciders.

The second class focuses on local red wines and will be held on Nov. 22.  

Dec. 13 will be the final class and will showcase Michigan white and dessert wines.

"We hope folks will join us as we explore and celebrate the fabulous wine and food selections we have to offer in Michigan!" said enrichment coordinator Gary Marks. "Our local chefs and wine experts will combine their talents to educate and entice you with samples and recipes from local growers and Michigan wineries."

The classes are on Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6, Nov. 22 and Dec. 13.  Participants must be 21 or older.

Anyone interested in the classes can sign up for just one, two or all three.

Here is a cost breakdown to attend the classes:

$38 for Summit members
$42 for Canton residents
$55 for non-residents

Anyone who signs up for all three classes can get them at a discounted rate of $90.  

Any participant, resident or non-resident, who signs up for all three events at once will qualify for a discounted rate of $90 total, and will receive a complimentary commemorative wine glass.
