DETROIT -

Walk With Me Detroit, an annual fundraising event for Easter Seals Michigan, will take place on Saturday at the Detroit Zoo.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the walk kicks off at about 9 a.m.

Proceeds will be used to help children and adults living with disabilities, behavioral health disorders or other special needs, and their families so that they can successfully live, learn, work and play in their communities, the organization said.

At last year's event, more than 400 walkers helped to raise more than $57,000. More than 96 percent of that money went directly to individuals and families who are supported by the organization.

"I am very excited about holding this year's event at the Detroit Zoo," said Easter Seals Michigan President and CEO Brent Wirth. "We have been serving Michigan for 92 years and community involvement is a major part of our mission and this new location will allow us to engage with our current and future friends."

Walkers will have the Detroit Zoo to themselves early and can stay at the Zoo throughout the day at no extra charge. Participants will receive a commemorative event t-shirt for a minimum registration of $25, which includes zoo admittance, parking, refreshments and more. Children 12 and under can participate for free.

Sponsors for this year's walk include CVS Caremark, Amway, Century 21, MassMutual, Brownrigg Companies, Bayer, Billhighway, IPG, NBS, Oak Electric, McGraw Wentworth, UHY LLP, Henry Ford Health System, Better Made, Genesis Financial Partners, Vitamin Water and Detroit Pencil Company.
