Day is effort to bring awareness of heart disease in women

The American Heart Association is encouraging everyone to wear red on Friday, February 1st, to help raise awareness of women's heart disease.

Throughout the month of February, local businesses say they will 'go red' in an effort to bring awareness to heart disease, known as the number one killer among women.

Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's national movement that was created by women for women. The association says it is dedicated to uncovering the truth about women and heart disease.

According to the association, National Wear Red Day was created as part of the campaign to educate the community about the silent kiler.

The American Heart Association says anyone can also participate in Wear Red Day. Those that wear red can upload their photos and videos to their national Facebook page, along with their local Facebook page here.
