Local event to help raise awareness of sickle cell disease
The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America and Fulfill the Cell Foundation are teaming up to help raise funds to create a traveling exhibit about sickle cell disease. The exhibit would travel to African American museums across the country.
The "Sickle Cell Disease Gala" will be held Friday, March 1 at 6:00pm at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History.
The event will feature the premiere of the documentary "Sickle Cell Anemia: Forgotten, But Not Gone" by Kelly Littlejohn. Littlejohn's son 11-year-old Allen suffers from sickle cell disease and has endured countless hospital stays, blood transfusions, bouts with pneumonia and surgery to remove his gallbladder.
Tickets are available at SCDAA Michigan-Detroit, 18516 James Couzens in Detroit or by clicking here.
