Fighting cancer is difficult emotionally and physically. Many patients find practical matters like researching treatment options and scheduling appointments only adds to their stress.
Now some patients will have help right at their fingertips thanks to a new app from the Center for Cancer Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital.
The app is the first to be developed in the U.S. specifically for cancer surgery patients. It allows patients to easily access information about treatment options, schedule appointments, pull up GPS mapping to appointment locations and to connect to their electronic medical record.
The “Click to Call” feature allows patients to be directly connected to a cancer specialist or nurse through the Center for Cancer Surgery's 24-hour cancer hotline at 888-777-4167.
“Our hope is that this app will add another dimension to the personalized care offered to our patients and help to alleviate much of the stress and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis by providing them with the tools and resources they need at their fingertips," said neurosurgeon Dr. Steven Kalkanis, director of the Center for Cancer Surgery.
In the future, the app may expand to include more features, including information for cancer survivors.
The new app is free and available to download in the App Store on Android and Apple devices.
