Being outside on a sunny day can not only brighten your day, but can also improve your physical health.

British researchers discovered exposing the skin to sunlight can reduce blood pressure and could also lower the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Researchers found that U-V-A rays transfer nitric oxide molecules from a person’s skin to their circulatory system, and in doing, so reduces their blood pressure.

Although too much sun can increase the risk for skin cancer, experts say avoiding all sun exposure may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Researchers hope to do additional studies on how to maximize the skin’s ability to store nitric oxide and effectively deliver it to the circulatory system.
