Woman credits free cancer screening with saving her life

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Almost exactly a year ago, 69-year-old Nancy Zeniewicz said she wasn't concerned about her health and felt fine. But when she found out about a free oral, head and neck cancer screening at Beaumont Hospital, she decided to attend.

Much to her surprise, it was discovered during her screening that she had thyroid cancer.

Because her cancer was caught early, it was treatable and curable, with very little interruption to her current life as a hard-core Tigers fan and volunteer.

Zeniewicz hopes others will take advantage of the free clinic because it could help save their life.

Dr. Warren Brandes runs the free screening clinic at Botsford Hospital. He says he's been able to catch nearly 100 cancers, often in people like Zeniewicz who say they feel just fine.
