A Jewish Orthodox school in Brooklyn has banned students from wearing so-called “hipster” glasses.

The glasses, defined by their thick frames and solid colors, are being banned in an effort by the school to shy away from “new modernism.”

In a letter to parents, Borough Park’s Bobover Yeshiva B’Nei Zion wrote, “We are asking that everyone buy simple glasses. What we have to commit ourselves to is we have to stand on top of this and not tolerate the new modernism.”

The letter was obtained by the New York Post and written in Yiddish.

The school is for grades fourth through high school – plus older rabbinical students.

“The good deed that accompanied the Jews in Egypt was that they didn’t change their names and clothes, and this same strength is still accompanying us and maintaining us in exile -- generations,” the letter reads.
