LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A bomb-sniffing dog, who served nine tours in Afghanistan, will be laid to rest at the Michigan War Dogs Memorial in Oakland County.

A funeral service for Mina is to be held Sunday in Lyon Township. The dog died recently at the age of 13.

Mina the Labrador Retriever was trained as a mine detection specialist dog with the Army.

Mina's service is to include a flag line and taps. But instead of a 21-gun salute, a chorus of trained dogs will howl on command to honor Mina's service, reports WHMI-FM.

The public is invited to attend the 2 p.m. ceremony at 11 Mile and Milford roads in Lyon Township in Oakland County.

Mina will be honored by the Michigan War Dog Memorial organization.

The Michigan War Dogs Memorial is run by a nonprofit dedicated to educating the public on the role dogs have played in the U.S. military.
