SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -

Metro Detroiters looking to expand their family could find the perfect furry addition in Southfield.

Almost Home Animal Rescue is holding an adopt-a-thon this weekend hoping to see it's 85 residents adopted into new homes.

“If by the end of the weekend, we adopt out 20 animals, we’d be thrilled that our efforts have paid off.  Six-seven animals a day, it’s an obtainable goal that we’re going to aim for,” said Lauren Anchill, co-founder of Almost Home.

The adoption event runs July 12, 13 and 14 and is being held at the shelter located at 25503 Clara Lane in Southfield.

People can stop by and meet the animals between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. during those days, but those who adopt between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon can take advantage of an early bird discount of 25 percent off adoption fees.

“By giving people the opportunity to come to the shelter and meet all of our animals, we will increase awareness about Almost Home and give every animal a chance to find their forever home," said long-time volunteer Laura Ochab.  "These extended hours will give people who can’t make our normal 12-5 adoption hours a chance to stop by and see all we have to offer.”

Almost Home will also have theme adoption specials to showcase it's senior animals, long-term residents, best buddies and other groups.

Almost home is a nonprofit no-kill shelter. It opened in 2001.
