The owner of a Warren pet store was in court Wednesday to learn his fate after more than 100 animals were removed from his store during a raid.
Judge Jennifer Faunce sentenced Dennis Jones, owner of Greenwood Pets and Plants in Warren, to probation.
Jones was charged with animal cruelty after hundreds of animals were discovered in poor condition and some were found dead in his store on East 9 Mile.
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts ordered Police and Animal Control to seize the animals back in May.
When authorities went inside they discovered the electricity was shut off and animals were found living in filthy conditions, said Animal Control.
Jones himself was found hiding from authorities in the basement of the store.
As a condition of his sentence Jones cannot own any animals and must undergo a mental health evaluation and perform 60 hours of community service.
