Online Service Helps Seniors

Finding the right private home care service may now be easier for many seniors and their families, thanks to a new facet of Medicare's Quality Care Finder.

The online service provides information on home health care providers and professionals, from physical and speech therapy to nursing care. Users can search either by location or the name of a chosen agency, and with the addition of survey results from a recent wide-ranging study, seniors and caretakers can now compare services based on the reviews of other home care users.

"CMS [The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services] is doing all it can to help consumers make better, educated choices, and help them find the home health agency that best meets their needs," noted Marilyn Tavenner, acting CMS administrator.

The survey covered points such as provider communication and courtesy, as well as the level of overall care. Those who are new to personal care services may find the range of provider choices and number of care topics daunting, a problem the newly expanded Quality Care Finder may help resolve.

Many survey respondents were happy with their home health experience, with 80 percent ready to recommend their current provider a friend.

Residential Home Health is Michigan’s leading provider of in-home nursing and therapy care.
