DETROIT - "Coop," host of 98.7 AMP Radio's morning show The Coop Show, will be on Live in the D to talk about Gown Town at 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Gown Town is a program which collects used prom dresses throughout Metro Detroit for teen girls who cannot afford a glamorous dress for prom. Last year 350 dresses were donated. Distribution of the dresses will be Sunday, April 6 at the Douglas J. Salon at 409 South Center Street, Royal Oak from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Girls can just show up and choose their favorite dress!
Notes about Gown Town:
·This is the fourth year of the annual event.
·New dresses can cost hundreds of dollars, making prom night too expensive for some teens and their families
·Parents, teachers and neighbors are encouraged to spread the word to families of teenage girls who might be struggling financially.
·Dresses have already been collected in Taylor, Royal Oak and Troy.
·Three more drop off opportunities this month: AIO Wireless in Warren (30842 Schoenherr Road) on Friday, March 28 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m; Douglas J. Salon in Royal Oak (409 South Center St) on Saturday, March 29 from Noon – 2 p.m. and Oakland Mall in Troy (412 West Fourteen Mile) on Saturday, March 29 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 30 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
·Martinizing Dry Cleaning dry cleans every dress that is donated at no charge. Other Gown Town sponsors include Douglas J Salon, Health Alliance Plan, OUR Credit Union and AIO Wireless
