Cadillac ELR
DETROIT -

Although details and images of the Cadillac ELR were leaked before its official reveal in Detroit, that didn’t keep people from flocking to the display Tuesday at the North American International Auto Show.

The ELR is Cadillac’s concept version of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid. Cadillac says it now is the only luxury brand offering such a vehicle. The ELR has a body resembling the Cadillac ATS with the Volt’s powertrain technology. It is the only vehicle, other than the Volt, with such technology under the hood.

Cadillac says the ELR will get 35 miles on electricity alone. The gasoline generator will take over if the driver runs out of electricity. The battery has an 8-year warranty, just like the Volt.

The vehicle, which is being called a luxury coupe, will be produced in limited quantities at Cadillac’s Detroit plant. That production is expected to start later this year, and the car will be in showrooms by 2014.

It’s a sharp looking car, no doubt, and you would expect nothing less from Cadillac’s luxury lineup. It sits closer to the ground than the CTS coupe and has a more aerodynamic look to it.

Photographers were very excited to get some of the first looks at the vehicle which drew such a crowd at the Cadillac display.

The ELR did not disappoint.
