The flood of big-budget Hollywood movie productions coming to Michigan has slowed to a relative trickle, but not everyone's yelling cut.
There's no doubt that interest in filming in the Great Lakes State has dropped as the state brought to a close a program that offered some of the most generous financial incentives in the nation. The once unlimited credit is now capped at $25 million, and the number of applications for the breaks is way down.
A less glitzy, more gutsy group of filmmakers are stepping up and trying to build on the foundation. A Detroit startup called Exxodus Pictures that creates and develops its own films and other content believes an industry built on Michigan-made ideas is one that's better suited for long-term success.
