Fire crews on scene of a house explosion in Ypsilanti Township

Multiple cities assisting Ypsilanti Fire at residential explosion

Ypsilanti Twp., Mich. – Authorities suspect a gas explosion is to blame for the blast that rocked an Ypsilanti Township neighborhood on Sunday.

A home's security camera captured the blast, which happened just before noon in the 1300 block of Gattegno Street.

A man, woman and an 18-month-old were able to escape the house that exploded. The woman and toddler are OK, but the man did suffer burns to his body.

The sound of the explosion is something neighbors told Local 4 they'll never forget.

"We walked over here to see what happened.  Their door was in the yard and everywhere. Glass was everywhere," said Lavaunte Reed.

DTE Energy crews are still working to pinpoint the exact cause of the blast.
