1 arrested when police find modified machine gun in Shelby Township

Police say no one was hurt, gun had been shooting off compressed gas on Erma Street

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person was arrested Thursday when Shelby Township police found a modified machine gun being shot off in a neighborhood.

Police said residents in the area of Erma Street called 911 to report a man either walking or driving a military-type vehicle down the street, firing at people.

Shelby Township police, along with Sterling Heights and Utica police, responded and found that no one had been hurt but there was an antique WWII-era armor plated military vehicle with a mounted replica 50 caliber machine gun.

Police said the gun had been modified to fire compressed gas, which emitted a bright flash and realistic gunshot sound.

Police made an arrest but haven't released any more info on the suspect.
