Detroit Mayor Dave Bing told Local 4 the shooting didn't involved the Movement Electronic Music Festival, which was happening nearby at Hart Plaza.

"It's my understanding that it was a couple of young people or somebody said it was disrespectful how they treated some guy's girlfriend. We got to get beyond that, that makes absolutely no sense. We will work through this," Bing said.
