Dozen Detroit public schools closed Wednesday due to power outage

DETROIT – A handful of Detroit Public Schools are closed Wednesday because of a power outage.

City officials blamed damage from strong winds that swept through Detroit on a power outage that affected schools and darkened traffic signals. The mayor's office said the Public Lighting Department was working to restore electricity service.

On Tuesday, 12 Detroit schools shut down due to power problems.

Now, the following schools are closed Wednesday :

  • Ann Arbor Trail
  • Carver Elementary
  • Cooke Elementary
  • Dixon Education Learning Academy
  • Dossin Elementary
  • Edison Elementary
  • Emerson Elementary/Middle
  • Gardner Elementary
  • Independence Elementary
  • Mann Elementary
  • Schulze Elementary
  • Westside Christian Academy

The Detroit Public Schools closed four schools Tuesday and eight others were shutting early for the day due to power problems.
