10-year-old boy and baby sister found alone in Detroit home

Police find children when they go to investigate reported break-in on Pinehurst

DETROIT – Detroit police responding to a break-in call Thursday morning on the city's west side found a 10-year-old boy and his 10-month-old sister home alone.

Police said the boy called them just after 5 a.m. when he woke up to find the family's 60-inch TV and their mother both missing.

The children weren't hurt but police said no adults were in the home with them.

Local 4 was there as an officer put the siblings into a patrol car and took them to a police station.

Just after 9 a.m., the children's mother showed up at the house.

Police said she told them she had left her children with her sister, who couldn't be found.

It wasn't immediately clear where the mother had been.

It hasn't yet been decided if neglect charges would be brought against the mother.

The father of the 10-month-old picked up both children at the police station.

Police are investigating whether the house was broken into or if the TV was removed from the home on purpose.
