100-Ft. Ice Slide Opens In Campus Martius

Biggest Attraction For Detroit's 2009 Winter Blast

DETROIT – Campus Martius Park, Detroit's Gathering Place, is opening its custom Ice Slide to the public Friday.

"Arctic Blast," the 100 foot icy drop will be one of the major highlights of this year's Winter Blast in downtown Detroit, which will run February 6 through 8.

The slide is an exciting addition to Campus Martius' family fun zone, which includes an ice-skating rink, marshmallow roasting stations and ice sculptures.

In addition, Detroit restaurants are encouraging people to eat in the "D" by offering deep discounts.

"Arctic Blast" will be located on the Park grounds near the Woodward Fountain and will remain open until February 22.

President of Detroit 300 Conservancy, Robert Gregory, announced the grand opening and said, "The 'Arctic Blast' is an awesome new feature that will draw metro Detroiters and the entire region to Campus Martius Park. The ice slide and rink combined will create great synergy, making it an enjoyable experience for all," he said.

Hours for the "Arctic Blast" are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. through Midnight, Saturday 10 a.m. through 11 p.m., and Sunday Noon through 8 p.m. The cost for one ride on the attraction is $3, two rides for $5, or four rides for $10.
