Police: Person Of Interest In Custody In Mount Clemens Fire

UPDATED: 8:24 pm EST November 9, 2006

Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel told Local 4 a person of interest is in custody Thursday evening in connection with the fire at the Mount Clemens Community School District administration building.

The person is a man who is believed to live around the area but is not connected with the school district, Hackel said.

Police said they made the arrest after witnesses spotted the man near the scene.

The man was wanted on two unrelated warrants and is being held on those charges while the arson investigation continues, Local 4 reported.

Mount Clemens firefighters arrived at the school district's administration building around 2 a.m. Thursday for a report of a fire.

The building is next to Mount Clemens High School, which is located on Cass Avenue.

Police said no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

School officials said the building was closed for renovations and all operations were moved moved to another building down the street.
