DPS Superintendent Search Down To 3 Candidates
POSTED: Friday, January 5, 2007
The search committee for the new Detroit Public Schools superintendent position said it eliminated one candidate from the race, leaving three candidates.
David Snead, a former Detroit superintendent, has been eliminated as a candidate, the search committee said.
The school board will vote on the remaining candidates, Doris Hope-Jackson, vice president of a district near Chicago; Connie Calloway, from St. Louis; and current superintendent William F. Coleman III.
The board is having a public meeting on Friday to discuss its progress at 5 p.m. at the Detroit School of Arts on Seldon Street in Detroit. The board will also discuss the closing of nearly 30 schools in the Detroit Public School District. The board said there is a need to close schools due to a budget deficit and low enrollment.
