Woman Missing Following House Fire

POSTED: Wednesday, January 10, 2007
UPDATED: 2:20 pm EST January 17, 2007

Police are searching for a woman who has been missing since a house fire Monday in Brownstown Township and said foul play is suspected.

The woman who lived in the home, 49-year-old Lizzie Collier-Sweet, and her husband Roger are going through a divorce, Brownstown Township police.

Brownstown police Lt. Robert Grant said when the husband was asked about his wife's whereabouts, he said if he had to guess she was probably dead in the woods.

Investigators said they searched what was left of the home, under the deck, and the neighbor's pool before calling in a cadaver K-9 to search the wooded area nearby. So far, investigators have turned up nothing.

Fire investigators concluded that the fire was intentionally set. There were no children in the home at the time of the blaze.

Friends told Local 4 the woman had recently purchased a handgun for protection, and neighbors said her car has been parked in her driveway since Monday.

Police said they had recently been at the location responding to a domestic disturbance.
