DETROIT -- A female postal carrier who was delivering mail on Monday was attacked by two dogs on Detroit's east side.
Officials said the woman was attacked by a Labrador Retriever and a Boxer and suffered wounds to one of her legs.
The dogs' owner is apologizing for what happened.
"They may have thought she was trying to get in or something," Theophilus Pace III, a resident of the home, said. "Then they bit her. The lady of the house stopped them quick, pulled them off and then I came down and assisted, because there were two."
Pace said he went back into the house to get a towel and some gauze.
"We feel bad about it," Pace said.
The letter-carrier was taken to a nearby hospital.
"Dogs are becoming a hazard to letter carriers in great numbers," Sandy Laemmel of the National Association of Letter Carriers said. "All we want to do is our job, deliver the mail and return home in the same condition we came to work."
The postal service said if a dog is running around out of control they can refuse to deliver mail for the entire block.
Postal carriers are bitten on a daily, if not weekly basis, U.S. postal officials said.
