DETROIT -- The Detroit Fire Department's Hazardous Material Team was at the scene of a home on Detroit's west side after nine people were hospitalized for possible carbon monoxide poisoning.Local 4 was at the scene as seven children and two adults were transported to DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital after being overcome by something in the home. The mother of the children was released Wednesday evening.A family member said that around 11:30 a.m., he stopped to check in on the family while running errands, and found everyone was sick. He immediately called the Fire Department.
"When I came back, a person who came with me also started feeling the same symptoms," cousin John O'Niel said. "So we called to verify that's what what was going on. Come to find that carbon monoxide symptoms were what we had."O' Niel said he was glad he stopped by the home when he did. He said he was especially concerned about the seven children, one of whom has asthma. The Hazardous Material Team went through the house inspecting the furnace and readings on the meters. They said they also checked other areas of the home to see if it was carbon monoxide poisoning."We're not getting any readings at all," Detroit Fire Department Lt. David Tucker said. "Not from the furnace, the water heater, the vents. Not from anything, so I don't know."Stay tuned to Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.com for updates to this story.
