ROSEVILLE, Mich. -- Commuters along Interstate 696 had to dodge falling concrete from an overpass on Tuesday morning.
Officials said three vehicles were damaged when an overpass at westbound I-696 near Groesbeck Highway in Roseville began to crumble.
Nova Horne's windshield was smashed in after a large piece of concrete fell from the overpass.
"I heard a big boom and I assumed it was a little piece of concrete that hit the tire and blew the tire out," Horne said. "I started to see this huge bar of concrete come falling off the overpass."
Horne said she was a little angry about the incident, but she said her life was more important.
"I'm glad I'm OK and no one was injured," Horne said.
The fallen concrete has been cleared from the freeway, and Michigan Department of Transportation crews were investigating the scene.
"I can guarantee that structurally, the bridge is safe," MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi said. "It was just an isolated area, but we're going to inspect the entire thing before we reopen it to traffic."
Morosi said crews were out most of the day and finished their inspection around 3 p.m.
There were no injuries reported, only damage to the vehicles.
