The coyote spotted in downtown Detroit will not be euthanized after all.
The coyote, which was spotted in front of the federal courthouse in Detroit, was captured by Detroit Animal Control Care Tuesday afternoon.
City officials told Local 4 that the coyote would have to be euthanized. The Department of Natural Resources said the animal can go back into the wild if it is retrained.
The Michigan Humane Society picked the animal up from animal control around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The animal is expected to go to the DNR-licensed rescue facility in Oxford Township where she will be retrained to manage in the wild.
Michigan law considers it a varmint. If it attacks someone, the city or state could be liable, according to spokesman Matt Allen, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
That is why it is necessary that the animal be retrained.
