An 11-year-old girl has been identified as the victim who lost her life when her family's SUV was hit on a Detroit freeway by a semi-truck.
Jennifer Vigil was in a Lincoln Navigator with an adult and two other children -- ages one year and four months -- about 8:35 p.m. Saturday on westbound Interstate 96 when it was struck.
Police said the truck driver tried to avoid the SUV, which was broken down in the far right lane, but hit the Navigator's left rear side.
Vigil was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other children were in safety seats and were treated for their injuries. The adult in the SUV did not require hospitalization.
The truck driver was not injured.
