12-year-old Detroit boy shot dead in drive-by
Mother says Kenis Green was looking forward to starting 8th grade this week
A 12-year old boy has been shot to death at his west side Detroit home.
Kenis Green was on a porch crowded with family members during a birthday party for his uncle. His mother, Sunsearae Hall, says a man opened fire from a van that pulled up in front of the house on Rutherford. It happened early Saturday morning.
"It’s ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense," she said.
She believes the gunman was targeting her boyfriend Gregory Owens. He was shot in the abdomen and is hospitalized in serious condition.
Kenis died from a gunshot wound to the head. His mother says he was looking forward to starting the 8th grade this week.
"He loved listening to music and playing football," she said. "He loved being around his family."
Police have made an arrest, but are revealing no information.
Hall says the gunman had drawn a gun on Owens the day before the shooting, mistakenly believing that Owens had made advances toward his girlfriend. She says the gunman lives across the street.
A funeral for the boy will be held Saturday at Elim Baptist Church in Detroit.
