The accident happened at John Kronk and Lonyo streets, Local 4 learned. Detroit paramedics were called to the scene just before 1 p.m.

The passenger train was bound for Chicago as it moved through the area. Witnesses said that signals were flashing when the van driven by Kenneth Wright traveled through the crossing. Witnesses told Local 4 that he drove around three cars waiting at the crossing and might not have seen the train.

Wright was taken to Henry Ford Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

Wright was the father of three children.
