Police: Woman Allegedly Failed To Report Roommates Death To Scam Money

POSTED: Friday, May 25, 2007
UPDATED: 5:51 pm EDT May 25, 2007

A local woman who was living with her dead roommate is facing charges.

In February, Canton police found the body of Ashley Pierce, 19, on the couch of her apartment.

Pierce died of a drug overdose and appeared to have been dead for days, while her roommate, Christina Nicole Tracey, 28, continued to live in the apartment with Pierce's dead body, police said.

Police said Tracey had a motive for not reporting her roommate's death. They said Tracey was impersonating her to scam nearly $1,600 from Pierce's father, according to police.

Friday, Wayne County Prosecutors charged Tracey with five counts of identity theft. If convicted could spend five years in prison.

In addition, police learned that in 2006, Tracey was living with a man who was found dead from an overdose of painkillers. Police said they will reopen that to see if Tracey has any connection to his death.

An arraignment is scheduled for this weekend.
