DETROIT -- A Clinton Township family is suspected of running a major marijuana drug operation in an unlikely place, the former United Gospel Tabernacle.
Police believe they discovered the family to be harvesting approximately 200 marijuana plants, with a street value between $500,000 and $1 million worth of marijuana.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office executed seven search warrants on Tuesday in three cities, Clinton Township, Wayne County and St. Clair Shores.
"These three individuals had a major grow operation for quite some time, from the information that we had," said Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel.
Gary Pollard, 57, his wife, Diane Pollard, 57, and their son, Michael Pollard, 34, were under police surveillance since April after receiving a tip about drug manufacturing and trafficking activity.
According to police, the family had a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow operation, using lights to nourish the hydroponics.
DTE has confirmed the family was able to illegally hijack the electricity from the neighboring business, a barbershop, to light the marijuana plants.
Gary Pollard was arrested and convicted in 1978 on federal charges involving delivery and conspiracy to deliver phencyclidine (PCP).
Gary Pollard, Diane Pollard and Michael Pollard were each charged with two 15-year felonies of growing and conspiracy to grow marijuana as well as possession of marijuana.
The judge posted a bond that totaled $200,000 between the three of them. Court officials said they paid the bond in cash and were released Friday afternoon.
Neighbors said the family returned home Friday afternoon, collected some belongings and left again.
