Manhole Explosion Closes 13 Mile Road Near John R.

POSTED: 1:42 pm EDT July 24, 2007
UPDATED: 12:35 pm EDT July 25, 2007

An explosion closed the westbound lane of 13 Mile Road between John R. Road and Stephenson Highway due to a manhole cover that blew up in the area, according to Madison Heights police.

The manhole explosion has caused a business corridor to lose power and several traffic lights in the area are out, said Detroit Edison.

DTE has told Local 4 that an underground cable failure caused the manhole to blow up.

Crews are on the scene and are working to restore power.

There were no injuries reported.
