NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Residents in a Northville Township neighborhood have experienced a rash of car break-ins.
Residents were sent an e-mail notifying them of the increase in car vandalism and valuables stolen from cars parked in residents driveways.
Local 4 News does not want to identify the neighborhood by name.
“Over the last two years, we have had four vehicles actually broken into. Windows smashed, headrests ripped out,” said victim Michael Ann Wolf.
The recent break-ins have forced some residents to get motion detector lights and video surveillance cameras.
“Obviously police are watching, because I have seen them go down every once and a while,” said resident Paula Silvio.
In one instance, the robber stole a residents house keys, but was startled when a car alarm went off, and dropped them in the street, according to police.
“We hesitate to even have guests over. In one of the cases, it was a baby sitter’s car that was broken into while we were home.
Northville police said they believe the break-ins are happening in the late-night hours.
Police are urging residents to park their cars in the garage or keep their cars locked and valuables inside.
