ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ann Arbor police have two men in custody after police said they broke into various residents' apartments and stole expensive items while the residents were home.
Police said Trebreth Story, 21, and Ayon Leary, 19, broke into three different Ann Arbor apartments and stole laptop computers and cell phones.
“In some of the cases they literally opened the bedroom doors, and looked and could see the residents inside,” said Lt. Micheal Logghe. “Certainly something that is very bold, and really that is where some tragedies could occur.”
The men would shimmy up the apartment buildings and enter through a second story sliding door, while the residents were sleeping, according to police.
“My friend was actually in her bed. They went in her room. She was sleeping, but just didn’t wake up,” said Ann Arbor resident Chris Kwon.
Police caught the men when they jumped onto the second story balcony of the third victim’s home. She began screaming and police responded immediately.
There were no injuries reported.
Police advise residents to keep their blinds shut and doors locked.
