Police are investigating a string of thefts and apartment invasions at the University Towers complex in Ann Arbor.
A man posing as a maintenance worker is suspected of taking items from three new residents, all University of Michigan students, and entering two other apartments without permission.
The Ann Arbor News reported that management for the complex called Ann Arbor police Tuesday when the tenants reported laptop computers and other electrical equipment missing.
“A stolen high number of electronic goods such as DVDs, computer laptops, ipods, things of that nature,” said Ann Arbor Lt. Michael Logghe. “Things that are easily transportable.”
Another tenant reported that he was sitting in his living room Monday afternoon when a man wearing a maintenance shirt walked into his apartment, saying he was there to check on a few things.
Further reports say that the man entered the kitchen, then bathroom, before leaving. The man was seen again on Tuesday in an elevator.
“I am very concerned, because I am moving in and that’s kind of scary,’ said a Michigan junior Angie Giordimaina.
Students have posted signs throughout the building that read: “$500 reward, 2 Sony Vaio laptops missing.”
