It was about eight years ago when a local couple noticed one of their 18 month old twins going from completely normal to barely functioning in the span of three weeks.
Doctors misdiagnosed the problem, but the parents kept searching for answers.
Children's hospital doctors discovered Chase Brosnan had a malignant tumor called neuroblastoma on his adrenal gland, and he was diagnosed with a very rare auto immune disorder called opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome - or OMS.
It's when your body's immune system tires to attack a tumor or virus and the brain gets caught in the crossfire.
Chases' tumor was removed, he had daily shots of steriods, and regular IV treatments and slowly he regained his motor functions.
Brenda Brosnan says they were able to diagnosis the problem early, but it's such a rare condition and most children are misdiagnosed, which can ultimatley mean permanent brain damage.
To help raise money for awareness, the Third annual Chase Away OMS golf outing is this Friday at the Pine Knob Golf course in Clarkston.
