IOSCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Authorities said dogs that attacked and killed two Livingston County residents have been euthanized.Ten purebred or mixed American bulldogs have been destroyed.Officials say four were believed to be involved in last Thursday's attacks. The others were considered unadoptable.
The animals were seized from a farm across the street from where the bodies of 91-year-old Edward Gierlach and 56-year-old Cheryl Harper were found.Gierlach, was discovered by his son in the driveway of his property in Iosco Township, about 55 miles northwest of Detroit, police said in a statement.Gierlach lives in a nursing home in Fowlerville. Family told Local 4, he often visited the property on nice days.Harper was found alongside a road near the house, troopers said.Police said Harper was walking or jogging when she was attacked.Detective Sgt. Sean Furlong of the Michigan State Police said he expects to present his report to the Livingston County prosecutor's office this week.Furlong would not say whether he is seeking charges against the dog's owner, whom he confirmed is Diane Cockrell.Funeral services for Harper were held Wednesday at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations for a memorial fund are being collected at LOC Credit Union.A service for Gierlach took place on Monday in Detroit.
