Female Teacher Charged With Sex Crime With Minor

POSTED: Monday, September 17, 2007
UPDATED: 8:16 am EDT September 18, 2007

Former Plymouth Christian Academy teacher Stephanie Ann Stein, 31, of Canton, was arraigned in 35th District Court Monday on charges alleging a relationship with a 15-year-old student she befriended last year.

Stein resigned from her teaching position in June.

Police said that during this past summer, her relationship with the teen escalated to a physical relationship.

At least one of the alleged sex acts occurred in Stein’s Westland home, according to police.

The boy’s mother became suspicious of the teacher’s relationship with her son after she read sexually explicit text messages that police say Stein sent the teen.

Stein told the boy’s mother she just stopped by to help him with his computer, said police.

Police said Stein would leave her young children at home while she met with the teen. Both children are under the age of 5.

“She said that she knew it was wrong and she would have to end it, and she did end it eventually,” said Canton Sgt. Rick Pomorski.

Stein has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct, third degree, one count of using the Internet to communicate with a minor to commit a crime, a four-year felony; and one count of distributing obscene material of a sexual nature to a minor, a two-year felony.

She was released from jail on a $50,000 personal bond with conditions of no contact with the victim.

She has a preliminary examination on Sept. 28.
