A Chippewa Valley educator has won the teacher of the year award for Michigan.Brent Vasicek was awarded the American Stars of Teaching Award for the state of Michigan.Vasicek is a fourth-grade teacher at Miami Elementary school in Clinton Township.He was chosen from among 4,000 candidates nominated by parents, students, principals and other school personnel.A United States Education official made the surprise announcement to Vasicek at a school assembly on Tuesday.
