WARREN, Mich. -- A Warren man and woman found out they weren't legally married because the minister didn't sign the correct line of the marriage license.
The groom is filing a lawsuit against his wife because of the error.
The couple got married in Warren in 2005 in front of 90 guests.
The Rev. Larry Sullivan signed the wrong line of the marriage license, The Macomb Daily reported.
The would-be bride, Diana Lynn Hickson, was supposed to fix the error but never did.
The would-be groom, Eugene J. Mandziuk, of Oak Park, has filed a lawsuit against her, claiming she took nearly $50,000 in cash and expenditures, including a diamond wedding ring and wedding gifts.
When Mandziuk confronted Hickson about the error again in March, she said she didn't want to live with him anymore and moved out, the paper reported.
Charles Busse, Mandsiuk's attorney, said his client went into the marriage with good intentions but does not believe Hickson did.
"He was an anxious husband with all the hopes and dreams of a newlywed," Busse told the paper. "He was devastated the marriage was not licensed or certified."
According to Mandziuk, the ring was worth $9,455. He will also try to recoup $11,500 in funds he gave her for a mobile home in Florida, $10,000 for the wedding ceremony and reception, $10,000 in "personal effects" and $6,500 in wedding gifts.
