Largest Steroid Lab In Mich. Discovered In Global Steroid Investigation

DETROIT -- The largest steroid enforcement action in U.S. history resulted in the arrest of 124 people, two from Michigan, and the discovery of the largest steroid laboratory ever recorded in Michigan’s history, according to a Drug Enforcement agency officials.The Drug Enforcement agency announced on Monday the success of Operation Raw Deal, an international investigation targeting the global underground trade of anabolic steroids, Human Growth Hormones and Insulin Growth Factor.In addition, the investigation included significant enforcement of illicit underground trafficking of ancillary and counterfeit medications, said DEA officials.
The DEA, with the help of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, Postal Inspections Services, FBI and the National Drug Intelligence Center executed 143 federal search warrants, which resulted in 124 arrests and the seizure of 56 steroid labs across the country.In Southeast Michigan, three search warrants resulted in the arrests of Timothy Smith of Taylor and Jeffery Mitchell of Browstown Township.The third local search warrant was executed at 15234 Beech Daly Road in Taylor, where police said they discovered the largest steroid laboratory in Michigan’s history.DEA officials said they seized 9,923 gross grams of powder steroids 5,326 milliliters of liquid steroids and 28,080 steroid tablets from the Michigan laboratory.In total, 11.4 million steroid dosage units and 242 kilograms of raw steroid powder from Chinese origin were seized and $6.5 million, as well as 25 vehicles, three boats, 27 pill presses and 71 weapons were seized in Operation Raw Deal, said DEA officials.
