POSTED: Tuesday, October 2, 2007
UPDATED: 7:59 am EDT October 3,2007

A man is dead after being hit by a sport utility vehicle at a Detroit BP gas station at Interstate 96 and Outer Drive Tuesday morning.

According to the surveillance tape, the driver filled up his gas tank, backed up, and drove forward, hitting the man.

The man was pinned under the vehicle before the driver stopped at the edge of the parking lot.

The driver told police he did not see the man.

The clerk at the gas station said he knew the victim as Jim. The clerk said the man had diminished mental capacity and was known to come to the station often to pick through the trash.

Police questioned the driver and said there will be no charges at this time.
