Police: Mom Hides Drugs In Baby's Clothes

UPDATED: 7:33 am EDT October 16, 2007

A teenage mother was arrested for allegedly hiding drugs in her child's clothing.

Warren police said the drugs were discovered after the mother dropped off the child at day care.

The mother, according to police, is a 17-year-old student at the Max Thompson Alternative School.

The school has an on-site day care. Police said the mother dropped off the child at day care, went to class and then realized a bag of marijuana was still hidden in her 7-month-old child's clothing.

Police said the drugs were discovered when the mother ran back to the day care and told employees she'd forgotten something.

"Everybody's talking about it in the school," said student Baquisha May. "They took all the other babies out of the day care and her baby was still in there."

"It's very surprising to hear something like that," said Latrice Russell, a parent who has a daughter at the school.

The school is part of the Van Dyke Public School District.

Late Monday, the district issued the following statement: "The criminal investigation is now being handled by the Warren Police. Having said that, according to the District's Code Of

Conduct any student found with drugs on school property is automatically suspended."

The 17-year-old mother has been suspended for 10 days and is expected to face criminal drug charges.
