WARREN, Mich. -- After weeks of hush-hush negotiations, the city of Warren is buying Bookworld on Van Dyke Avenue.

The all-purpose porn shop has been in business since the 1970s and in order to get rid of it, the city decided to buy the property.

"I know residents will be thrilled we're putting an end to Bookworld," Warren Mayor Mark Steenberg said.

Under the deal, Warren buys the business for $295,000 but the current owners have to dispose of the inventory and they're barred from reopening anywhere in the city limits.

Many neighbors on Warren's south side say they have been disgusted by the store for years. "Now, we don't have to worry about the children being exposed to that environment," said Cynthia Lieckfelt.
