DETROIT -- An Oakland County jury has awarded Geoffrey Fieger, his associate Arnold Matusz, and the Fieger law firm $10 million.
The jury brought back that verdict on Wednesday after a two-week-long trial.
The Fieger firm had sued Arizona attorneys Paul Rudolph and Kent Hammond, saying they acted negligently and breached their fiduciary duties.
Nearly four years ago, the firm hired Hammond and Rudolph to act as local counsel in a death case involving two Michigan residents who were killed by a truck in Arizona.
The lawsuit accused the Arizona attorneys of trying to steal Fieger’s attorney fee. The lawsuit also accused the attorneys of committing legal malpractice by filing ethical complaints against Fieger to cover up the theft.
The jury’s verdict was for $7.25 million, but the case has been pending for nearly four years, so the interest added up to more than 10 million.
