Mother Speaks Out After Daughter Protected Her From Gunfire

A 7-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after police said she threw herself on top of her mother while she was being shot at on Detroit's eastside on Monday night.

"Yeah, she did try to save me, she jumped in the front seat," said her mother, Selietha Parker.

According to police, Parker's boyfriend, Calvin Tillie, kidnapped Parker, her daughter, Alexis Goggins, and a friend, Aisha Ford and forced them at gunpoint into an SUV.

"The gun was pointed at me at all times, so I'm trying to be as calm as I can be," Ford told Local 4.

Ford convinced the kidnapper to let her stop at a gas station, where an attendant called the police while she tried to dial 911.

"He had me at gunpoint. My baby was in the back and I guess she seen him pull out the gun, and she said, 'Don't hurt my mother,' and jumped in the front seat to try to help me, but he had already started shooting,"

Tillie allegedly shot Goggins six times.

Goggins is recovering in the hospital. Parker said she will be OK, but she will need surgery on her arm, mouth and eye.

Parker said Goggins is a fighter. She has had epilepsy, which caused her to have a stroke and a little weakness on the right side of her body.

Police caught Tillie shortly afterward and he is in custody.

"I feel horrible. No child should ever have to live through anything like this, and no mother should ever have to go through this. I want justice to be served, I want him to suffer the same way my child is suffering," said Parker.
